Buffalo woman goes to prison for striking bicyclists

Carmen Martin could serve up to four years in prison after striking three cyclists, killing one of them

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Buffalo woman will spend the next one-and-a-third-to-4 years in prison for striking multiple cyclists three years ago, killing one of them.

36-year-old Carmen Martin was convicted of criminally negligent homicide and assault, as she hit a bicyclist from behind on South Park Avenue near the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino.

The one victim, a 32-year-old woman, was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where she was treated for a head injury and broken bones, including multiple leg fractures.

Martin continued and hit two more bicyclists near Columbia Street.

The second victim, a 27-year-old female, was also taken by ambulance to ECMC, where she was treated for a head injury and a broken pelvis.

The third victim, 29-year-old Sara Rogers, was transported by ambulance to Buffalo General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Martin's driver's license has also been revoked.
