Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame (BMHOF) is receiving a gift from the family of one of its inductees: A platinum record from "The Rainbow Connection", a song from "The Muppet Movie". It will be presented to the BMHOF on Friday.
Friends and family members of inductee Ernie Corallo, a member of the Class of 1989, will present the BMHOF with his platinum album, which will remain in its Buffalo Music Hall of Fame Museum archives.
"It's an honor," says Tom Lorentz of the BMHOF. "It's like comparing a Olympic athlete and say, 'I got the gold medal.'"
Lorentz notes most musicians don't make a lot of money, so earning a platinum record for selling 1 million copies is an accomplishment.
But if you are looking to see this or other music artifacts, you're hard pressed to find it.
"We would have a lot of stuff to show, but we don't have the room to present it," Lorentz explained with WBEN.
He says the BMHOF headquarters is a storefront on Amherst Street in Buffalo, next to Sportsmen's Tavern. He's been working with the Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame and Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame to create a Buffalo Experience Museum.
"Our goal is to have workshops, have a theater there so that if somebody comes to town, we could present things. So whether it's sports, whether it's broadcasting, you'd have a spot where you could do these things," Lorentz said.
He adds there's been a challenge in getting support from the City of Buffalo.
Corallo died in 2021 at the age of 76.
