Buffalo, NY (WBEN) If it's Good Friday, the place to be in Buffalo arguably is the Broadway Market. This year seems to be bringing in more customers beyond the Easter weekend tradition.
General Manager Kathy Peterson says this year, there are 90 vendors, including year round vendors. "Half Baked Cookies is here this year. We have some new vendors, as well as the vendors you expect to see during Easter. Our wineries, Swayze distilling is here. Merritt Winery is here. So we have all of our pretty much anyone you'd be looking for that you like to come and see during Easter,," says Peterson.
Shoppers like Scott Kindrowski and Dorothy Flakes say it's about tradition for them. "It's good to see them come out, you wish it were like that all year," sys Kindrowski, who was getting pierogi. "I remember back in the day this is where everybody came to shop," adds Flakes.
Adding to the intrigue is the $45 million renovation project for the Broadway Market. " I think it's also piqued people's interest this year, has accounted for the bump in attendance," explains Peterson. "It's cleaning up the market, returning it to what it looked like in the 50s the front especially, putting all the windows back in."
Peterson says restaurants will be in the front of the market with a food court area for you to sit down and eat. "There'll be a Main Street to come into the market. So the butchers will be on that aisle, produce Baker, different vendors will be on that main aisle. And then to the west of the market will be production spaces," adds Peterson.
The market is open Friday 6am to 7pm and Saturday 7am-5pm. The market is closed on Easter Sunday.
