With the Democratic party experiencing an ideological split between moderates and progressives, longtime Republican Strategist Carl Calabrese is warning that this is a serious movement across the stateand the country.

"The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) intend to take over the Democrat party. They are starting first in citieswhere they have their strongest numbers. They're doing it in primaries where there is low turnout. It's not a political party, it's an organization."

The DSA is running on the "workers deserve more" initiative.

"It's amazing," Calabrese said, "that no democrat or elected official has put up a hand and said stop. They're in denial."

In the aftermath of Tuesday's primary in which Jon Rivera upset Democratic Party Chair Jeremy Zellner, in the 61st State Senate district, many are wondering why there isn't a Republican running in November.

Calabrese reminds us of two things. Democrats hold a roughly 50,000 voter-registration advantage. And,the best chance to take the district was during the special election in February when Dan Gagliardo ran, and lost to Zellner.

He said there are lots of opportunities ahead for Republicans with the midterms and 2028.

"Shame on the Republican party if it doesn't have a field day with the very radical shift to the left on the part of Democrats," he said.
