SABREHOOD (WBEN)....Best friends, Zach & Tyler, each paid more than $500 for "nose bleed" seats in KeyBank Center for Friday's Buffalo Sabres/Montreal Canadiens tilt.
It didn't matter.
"Buffalo is great," Tyler said. "I mean we got free beer in the hotel because we were from Canada. How great is that?"
The two traveled from Sault Ste. Marie , Ontario to downtown Buffalo and even before puck drop, the journey was well worth it.
Yes, there was some good natured chripping from Sabres' fans, but overall Zach and Tyler had nothing but good things to say about Buffalo.
The pair were among the throng of Canadians who came to Buffalo - some since earlier in the week - all because of the Sabres/Habs playoff series.
Some nabbed tickets. Others were bound of watch parties at Alumni Plaza and Canalside.
Still others were hitting a local bar...or two....or three.
"You know the hardest chrip I got was from a two-year=old," laughed Toronto resident Nick Winch as he downed a Southern Tier beer. "This is my first time in Buffalo and I'm definitely coming back."
Normally, Michael Talmedge, who is also from Toronto, would have stayed home and watched the game on "Hockey Night in Canada."
But, Talmedge said he was so drawn to Buffalo because of the fans, who in an organic moment, during the April 28 game against the Boston Bruins began singing "O Canada!" when singer Cami Clune's mic went dead.
"After seeing that I had to come to Buffalo, no matter the cost," Talmedge said.
