Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A political consulting firm organized by a former deputy Buffalo mayor was ordered to pay restitution after the company pleaded guilty to wire fraud.

Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny ordered LSA Strategies to pay more than $8,000 in restitution.

Steve Casey, according to prosecutors, devised a scheme to defraud a candidate running for the New York State Senate 60th District in 2012. They say Casey provided consulting services to the candidate, including arranging for campaign mailings to be printed by a company..

In doing so, Casey requested the unidentified company increase each of its invoices to the candidate by a specified amount. However, Casey did not inform the candidate of the increase in the amount of the invoices, rather Casey led the candidate to believe that he was working on a voluntary basis.

After the candidate paid the invoices, the company paid LSA the amount by which the invoices had been increased, a total of $8,283.59.

Casey worked for the city from 2006 to 2014.
