Dunkirk, NY (WBEN) - The Chautauqua County Fair is underway, and folks have been getting their tickets for what arguably is the main event, the demolition derby on Sunday.

Chautauqua County Executive P.J. Wendel says the fair is in its 144th year with a great showing of agriculture, a foundation of the county. "More so for the 4H kids to go out and see what they all do and let them show their animals and be rewarded for all their hard work. We do have a meat auction that takes place on Friday, which is phenomenal. Children get to get a little bit of payback for all their hard work," says Wendel.

Wendel says the main event arguably is Sunday's demolition derby. "It's usually a lot of local drivers. It always seems to be a good event, and you see cars getting prepped right now and driving back," says Wendel. There are other grandstand shows at the fair, including bull riding and a monster truck show.

No fair is complete without food. Wendel says you'll see the traditional fried fair goodies, and you can get something special to wash it down. "Some of the mouth watering, amazing, world famous milkshakes produced by the 4H kids. They also have food there, and proceeds go directly to the 4h clubs," explains Wendel.

The fair runs through Sunday in Dunkirk, just off the Thruway.
