Cheektowaga officials investigate cause of fatal fire Wednesday morning

Cheektowaga, N.Y. (WBEN) - Officials in the Town of Cheektowaga continue to investigate the cause of a fatal fire early Wednesday morning on Yeager Drive.

At around 3:19 a.m. Wednesday, Cheektowaga Public Safety Dispatchers received calls reporting a residential fire with someone possibly still inside. Within five minutes of the first emergency call, members of the Cleveland Hill Fire Department arrived at the residence, and immediately started to extinguish the fire and search for anyone trapped inside.

The resident of the home, 64-year-old Connie Gwinner, was quickly located and extracted by firefighters, who attempted life-saving measures. Ms. Gwinner succumbed to injuries sustained inside of the house and was pronounced deceased.

As is standard with any fire that results in a loss of life, the Cheektowaga Police Department has launched a thorough investigation that is ongoing into the cause of the fire.
