Cheektowaga Police investigating Thursday night shooting on Kensington Expressway

Cheektowaga, N.Y. (WBEN) - Cheektowaga Police officials are investigating a shooting on the Kensington on Thursday that shut down the expressway for a while, and sent a 26-year-old male victim to the hospital.

Just before 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Cheektowaga Police and Fire Dispatch received 9-1-1 calls reporting possible gunshots fired in the area of the Kensington Expressway near Maryvale. Additional information was received that an off-duty Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) Detective was traveling Eastbound on the Kensington Expressway between Eggert Road and the Pine Ridge off-ramp in the Town of Cheektowaga when he came upon a male suffering multiple gunshot wounds near a vehicle in the roadway.


The off-duty detective immediately began life-saving measures, and was joined by responding NFTA and Cheektowaga police officers at the scene.

The victim was transported to Erie County Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Detectives are in the early stages of an investigation to determine the participants in this crime.
