Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - The back and forth over the City's involvement in the Chippewa entertainment district continues.
Earlier this week, Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan called for The Cowboy Bar on Chippewa to be permanently shut down, after the bar's 72 year old owner was arrested following a stabbing incident. The city did temporarily shut the bar down, citing a dire emergency.
Ryan once again called for changes to the way bars operate on Chippewa on weekends.
"It's not a place I would go if I was staying at the Hampton Inn, and wanted to grab a drink with my wife after a wedding," Ryan said.
Tim Walton, manager at Bottoms Up and VENU on Chippewa, took issue with the Mayor's comment.
"The Mayor's an older man, no offense," Walton told WBEN. "I don't see someone his age coming out until 4:00AM anywhere. There's different clientele for everything. I don't hang out at a bingo hall, but I'm not trying to shut it down. Not everything is for everyone and it's not something new. It's been working for years."
Walton said the city is putting undue attention on any violent incidents that happen on Chippewa compared to the rest of the city, and asked if the city wants nightclub businesses to fail.
"The appearance that we're all kind of getting is that the city doesn't want an entertainment district in general."
