Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Buffalo Common Councilman wants answers on the investigation into D.J. Granville, the Erie County Sheriff's narcotics chief spotted on video in April of 2024 crashing a county-owned vehicle into several parked cars.

"We need a second set of eyes," said Niagara District Councilman David Rivera on WBEN. "An independent, neutral investigation. That's why we're asking Letitia James to take a look at this."

In the crash, Granville allegedly struck six cars while on duty on the city's West Side, causing nearly $60,000 in damage.

Granville was cited for leaving the scene of an accident, while five Buffalo police officers were also placed on administrative leave.

"We've been asking questions, regarding the investigation, and the conduct of the officers. And trying to find out why certain procedures weren't followed in the course of a hit and run," Rivera said.

The case is currently being investigated by the Niagara County District Attorney.

Rivera added the public would be well-served to have a second set of eyes on it, for one reason.

"There is a lack of trust because of a lack of transparency and accountability," Rivera said. "It's been 13 months, and from what many of us on the Council understand, there were certain procedures that were not followed by the Buffalo PD, and that's concerning to me."
