Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Fire Commissioner William Renaldo updated reporters on Wednesday, just hours after Tuesday night's fire that heavily damaged two buildings at the center of an eminent domain dispute.
Mayor Brown says the fire that broke out between 110 and 118 South Park Avenue is still under investigation. The fire started before 8 p.m. ET pm Tuesday and was contained at around 2 a.m. ET early Wednesday morning.
The city is still trying to obtain the 110 and 118 properties via eminent domain to preserve it as much as possible following the fire.
Councilman Mitch Nowakowski stresses the importance of keeping these properties preserved as best as the city is moving towards “emergency stabilization”, so the Cobblestone District can maintain its historical roots.
Brown and the Department of Permits and Inspection Services note this area is a hazard, and are asking pedestrians to stay away from the area. Roads that will remain closed include a portion of Illinois Street and South Park Avenue.
