Grand Island, N.Y. (WBEN) - The former home of Fantasy Island, most recently Niagara Amusement Park & Splash World, on Grand Island is on the market, and HUNT Commercial Real Estate is looking for a prospective buyer that would preferably keep it as an amusement park.
The approximately 75-acre commercial property has been listed for $4,999,900, and comes with more than 50 existing structures and approximately 50 rides and attractions. Among the attractions still on site includes the Silver Comet wooden roller coaster, a dedicated water park, Kiddie Land and Western Town.
The property also includes approximately 65,000 square feet of existing improvements and parking for more than 800 vehicles.
HUNT Commercial realtor Jennifer Ranaletti, who's co-listing the property with Christina Cerrone Pecoraro, is hoping the site can be sold and maintained as an amusement park for the public.
"It's been an icon for many, many, many years," said Ranaletti in an interview with WBEN. "I would say about 90% of the rides are still functional. There's just a few of them that need some maintenance done to them, and they could be functional again. We have actually shown the property a couple times so far... we've just got a bunch of investors that have been looking at it. So we're not really sure what's going to happen with it."
The property has been an entertainment destination on Grand Island since 1961, when Fantasy Island opened. The site is currently zoned Central Business District (CBD) and offers potential for continued amusement park use or redevelopment into other commercial opportunities, subject to applicable approvals.
Located along Grand Island Boulevard and directly off the I-190, the property offers access between Buffalo and Niagara Falls, as well as visibility to regional travelers. The existing site includes administrative offices, warehouses, performance stages, restaurants, concession areas and other support facilities in addition to the amusement attractions.
The property was most recently operated as Niagara Amusement Park & Splash World by IB Parks & Entertainment.
"It's somewhere close to home, living in Western New York, that everybody was just able to go enjoy the water park, enjoy the rides, just have some family fun," Ranaletti said.
Despite its nearly $5 million price tag, Ranaletti feels the site will be sold in fairly short order.
"I don't think it's priced incorrectly at all. I think we've priced it very competitively for what there is and what we have to offer over there," Ranaletti said. "We have already had two showings on the property with possible investors, so honestly, I think it's going to go quite quickly."
Could the property sell quick enough this fall with the hope it could re-open for the public by next spring or summer?
"With the showings and the phone calls that we're continuing to get and the interest that we're having so far, we're hoping that it could happen. So we're very hopeful for it," Ranaletti said.
Ranaletti further believes that any buyer that takes over and makes the site active again would be a huge boost for Grand Island.
"There were so many people that had season passes to this place, and then it just, unfortunately, didn't open. But I think it'd be wonderful to have it back again," she said. "I think there's somebody out there for this property, whether they're going to keep it a Fantasy Island or an iconic attraction, or doing something else with the property."
The park did not open for the 2026 season, citing attendance and revenue levels in recent seasons not being sufficient enough to sustain operating costs and the continued investment required to rebuild the park.
