Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - The wait is almost over.
Costco is ready to open the doors to its much-anticipated Amherst location this Wednesday morning, and they're expecting a big crowd to welcome them into the area.
"It's going to be an exciting day," said Amherst store general manager J.B. Swiger. "I think Buffalo's excited about it. They'll be used to the environment... like a Buffalo game."
Swiger and others at Costco say they're ready for the opening day madness starting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, but are asking people not to line up days ahead of time, if that's what they were planning.
"I wouldn't start [lining up] until the day of," Swiger said. "If you really want to camp out here, you could pull up at midnight or so. We'll welcome all of it."
The 164,500-plus square foot Costco sits on the same site as the recently opened Dick's House of Sport on Ridge Lea Road near North Bailey in Amherst. Over 200 employees have been hired to work everything from the rotisserie chickens to the tire center.
They have been signing people up for memberships at a storefront in the Walden Galleria mall, and while Costco is not sharing numbers, they say the response has been immense.
"I was there yesterday, and it was electrifying," Swiger said. "Every table was full... it's an exciting environment over there."
