Could Amazon eye Hamburg for a site?

Supervisor says it's in the works

Hamburg, NY (WBEN) It appears Amazon has its eyes on Hamburg for a distribution center. The supervisor of the town says it could bring hundreds of good-paying jobs.

Amazon is working on plans for $47 million dollar center at the Lake Erie Commerce Center at Lake Shore and Bayview Roads. "It is proposed to be built on 57.4 acres at an industrial park there," says Supervisor Jim Shaw.

Shaw says this could provide 300 jobs that would be well-above minimum wage in pay, and would also bring truck traffic commerce to the town, which pleases him. "It hasn't been approved but it is in the works," noting the Hamburg IDA is taking the lead on this.

Shaw hopes developers will be ready to talk soon. "I think we've got to get through the rest of the planning concerns. I would hazard a guess to say this would not be operational this calendar year, but I don't want to foreclose the developers from accomplishing that," says Shaw. He says site clearing is complete, so the project is moving in the right directions.
