Cuomo's attorney wants AG to recuse herself
Glavin says James is running for governor, so her office should not be involved in Cuomo probes
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The attorney for former Governor Andrew Cuomo is calling on the state attorney general to recuse herself and her office from investigations into the former governor, saying Letitia James' run for governor is a conflict of interest.
Rita Glavin says there's "widespread speculation that he may attempt a political comeback." Glavin said that possibility was "in the head of anyone who's running for governor." Glavin made those comments during a virtual news conference on Cuomo's campaign website.
Glavin says James must recuse herself and her office from any future decisions into her August 3rd report on sexual harassment allegations against Cuomo, the current investigation in alleged misuse of state resources, and a criminal investigation into the disclosure of grand jury information. Glavin believes the source to the New York Post as Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple. "Whether or not he's the source, there must be an investigation into that grand jury leak," says Glavin.
Glavin says there's no question when this all began, Cuomo did not want James or her office to be involved in the investigation against him because Cuomo was planning on running, and James had not disavowed campaigning. "Her judgment in those months was absolutely compromised by her political motivation," claims Glavin. "She's making official decisions at the same time she's seeking campaign endorsements, contributions for her run for governor, and is trying to make the case why she is better than Governor Hochul or anyone else for that office."
James announced her bid for governor last month.
