Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The final chapter in the D.J. Granville saga has been written, as Erie County Sheriff John Garcia has suspended the Narcotics Chief for 30 days without pay.
Garcia issued the following statement on Tuesday:
“The Erie County Sheriff’s Office has concluded its internal investigation into the multi-vehicle accident that occurred on April 11, 2024. D.J. Granville has been suspended without pay for a period of 30 working days.
"I did take into consideration the fact that Granville has been an exemplary employee with no previous history of discipline or misconduct. I also took into consideration the fact that he proactively sought treatment to address the health and wellness issues he was experiencing at the time, as his attorney summarized in open court on Friday.
"Granville and his attorney have informed us they have initiated conversations with the county attorney to address the issue of restitution relating to taxpayer funds that were expended as a result of the accident. I agree that restitution is appropriate, and I am satisfied that D.J. is taking responsibility for his actions.”
Granville pleaded guilty on Friday to a pair of misdemeanor charges in the case and will not serve jail time. He admitted to striking several parked cars on Prospect Avenue with his county-issued vehicle back in April 2024. The incident was captured on video.
The incident caused damages estimated to have cost Erie County approximately $60,000 in taxpayer funds.
