Daniel O'Sullivan carries on family legacy as St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Daniel O'Sullivan of Buffalo says it was a thrill to get the call a few weeks ago that he will serve as the Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick's Day Parade along Delaware Avenue on Sunday.

He has been working with the parade committee since he was about 10-years-old.

"I started carrying division signs for the parade. My dad and my uncle were both heavily involved," said O'Sullivan with WBEN on Friday. "I've had a bunch of different roles over the years. I think I've done every job in every kind of weather. I'm super thrilled for this weekend. I cannot wait."

The O'Sullivan family connection to Buffalo's St Patrick's Day parade goes back decades.

"My grandpa got involved with the Irish Center when he came over to America. I have Irish roots and memories of Irish culture and traditions. Hopefully my grandpa is up there, proud, looking down on everyone and blesses us with a nice day."

Sunday's weather is not exactly calling for a nice day, though, as morning snow showers and extreme winds will impact the area.

O'Sullivan is hoping a lot of people still turn out.

"No one remembers the normal parades. But they remember the ones that are really warm or really cold. Hopefully it will be memorable," he said.

Brittany O'Sullivan, Daniel's wife, will serve as Deputy Grand Marshal, along with Daniel's father, two sons, and sisters Nicole Skelton and Katie Wojtanik to help celebrate this once in a lifetime honor.

The parade starts Sunday at 2 p.m. at Niagara Square in front of Buffalo City Hall, and proceeds to North Street. It's 1.3 miles in length.
