Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN)- Employees of Dash's Market began the process of forming a union for all employees, and have now exposed the problems those for the union have faced, at a press conference held outside their Hertel Ave store on Thursday.
Dash's workers began their campaign for a union in hopes for better pay, benefits, and working conditions, but have since seen an uprising in surveillance and union-busting. Casey Moore, who led the way for the Starbucks union campaign, began the press conference.
"You know the purpose of having a union is you get to collectively bargain and set the priorities and the decisions for how things are made." Moore expressed the opportunities a union would being Dash's workers. "I've worked on a lot of campaigns in Buffalo. This is one of the worst," continued Moore.
Employees form numerous departments were in attendance, and a representative from each of the four Dash's locations expressed their experiences at work since they came out as pro-union.
"We're only asking [Dash's] for a fair, open process and a fair Union Election to take place in just over one week. We have already faced countless examples of unfair labor practices. Managers have been pulling tons of workers off the floor, bribing them with management positions and raises. They even sent a manager to our first workers meeting to write down the name of every worker who attended."
Daniel Mammoser, a cashier at the Colvin location, elaborated on the change in atmosphere since workers began to campaign for a union. He continued to relay practices at his store that were similar to acts of intimidation and coercion.
Like Mammoser, employees who represented the other three Dash's stores were in attendance and spoke on the different treatment they have began to face. With the increase in surveillance and intimidation pro-union employees have began to feel, they have compiled a list of unfair labor practices, and have filed said charges with the National Labor Relations Board.
While employees who support a union held their press conference, those opposed to a union stood outside the Hertel Ave location holding signs to show their support for a union free company.

The hope for employees for a union is to have an election by next week, but more work is still to come before that election can be possible.
