Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - One person has died as the result of a late night fire Thursday, while a firefighter who battled the blaze was hospitalized.
According to Amherst fire officials, the call of a fire at 4237 North Bailey Avenue came in just before midnight. Firefighters responding to the scene say they saw heavy fire coming from the home.
The fire was deemed out shortly after midnight, but officials did recover an individual that was declared deceased.
The firefighter taken to a hospital was transported for evaluation.
Damage to the home is estimated at $400,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
