Niagara, N.Y. (WBEN) - The DEC and EPA say they are continuing to sample soil from neighborhoods in Niagara and Erie Counties that may have exposure to radiation.
As of Friday morning, DEC and EPA say they received 117 signed property access agreements. Agency staff say they visited 42 properties on Thursday to speak directly with residents and requested permission to conduct screening. 11 new signed access agreements were reached and outreach will continue this weekend. Six survey teams are conducting fieldwork Friday, reaching residents, screening properties, and evaluating results to determine whether additional sampling is needed.
The. EPA says it also offered voluntary temporary relocation to residents at four properties as a precaution while additional sampling and evaluation continue. Staff say they will remain in direct contact with those residents to discuss next steps and available support.
