Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) Town of Tonawanda has approved a plan to provide a 100% real property tax exemption for eligible seriously disabled veterans.
“This is an outstanding law," said Town Supervisor John J. Flynn who spent nearly three decades in service in the U.S. Navy. "Our state has now codified a law that local governments can buy into, recognizing the service members who were injured in the line of duty and have become disabled.”
To qualify, veterans must have a 100% service-connected disability rating and be deemed permanently disabled by the U.S. Veterans Administration. Veterans applying by March 1, 2027, would see their property tax exemption starting. With the 2028 town tax bill beginning in January 2028.
“Veterans deserve this break,” Supervisor Flynn said. “I could not be any prouder to vote in favor of this resolution."
