Hamburg, N.Y. (WBEN) – Dozens of cats, kittens, and dogs had to be rescued from a home in Hamburg this week. The Erie County SPCA says the rescue team was deeply saddened to see the extent of the animals' suffering when they arrived on the scene. Cats and kittens were covered in feces and urine, and many had painful mats in their fur.
The animals had significant flea infestations, and several of the cats were underweight.
The condition of the home is a serious concern, according to animal investigators, who were forced to set up humane traps to rescue the remaining animals. The home has been deemed uninhabitable.
The SPCA is providing veterinary care to the animals. In total, 28 cats and kittens and 3 dogs were taken from the home.

The Erie County SPCA wants the public to know: if you're struggling to care for animals, or know someone who is, call the SPCA Investigations Department at 716-875-7360 ext. 214.
