Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - If you happen to be traveling along Niagara Falls Boulevard this week in the Northtowns, be aware of some potential delays to your journey.
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is advising motorists to expect roving lane closures with traffic directed by flaggers between Creekside Drive and Edward White Drive in both the towns of Amherst and Tonawanda from Tuesday through Friday.
Crews will be working to facilitate signal upgrades at various intersections along Niagara Falls Boulevard. Work has been ongoing for more than a week, with about a mile stretch of Niagara Falls Boulevard already having seen these upgrades.
"We have had some roving lane closures, Monday through Thursday last week, it's going to be Tuesday through Friday this week. There was a break where there weren't lane closures for the long Memorial Day Weekend, but we have workers out there," said Ryan Whalen, spokesperson for NYSDOT. "They have to do some saw cutting into the road to install some signal conduit, and as they do that, it's going to cause some delays."
Work started Tuesday at Creekside Drive, with crews moving South along Niagara Falls Boulevard toward Edward White Drive.
Closures will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., and will impact 1-to-2 intersections each day. NYSDOT officials advise motorists to seek alternate routes to their destination, if possible.
"As always, we just encourage people to look out for the safety of our workers as they're out on the road," Whalen added. "They're doing it to be able to get you to wherever you're going in the most efficient and safest way possible, and we appreciate if you do your best to make sure they can be safe as well."
