Buffalo, NY (WBEN) With the primary coming June 22nd, Erie county residents once again will have the opportunity to vote early if they can't get to the polls on primary day.
Erie County will have 37 locations for early voting starting Saturday.
Erie County Democratic Elections Commissioner Jeremy Zellner says you don't have to stick with your town.
"They can choose any of the 37 sites to vote at. Voting will take place on the weekends noon to 6pm and weekdays noon to 9pm," says Zellner. He says those who live in the city and work in the suburbs can head to the polls after work. "It's been a very convenient way for thousands of voters across the county to vote," says Zellner.
Republican Elections Commissioner Ralph Mohr says you won't have to bring anything to vote early.
"We have electronic poll books so we have a database of everyone in Erie County, so as long as you live in Erie County and a registered, you're in our database," says Mohr. "You come in, present your name to the inspector, and they'll look your name up on the database and present you the proper ballot." But Mohr says if you bring your voter registration card mailed out a few weeks ago, it could make things go much more smoothly. "You can just present that card, scan it in the system, and it brings up your name, address, and your proper ballot and it makes it a very fast vote," explains Mohr.
Mohr hopes a lot of people take advantage of the early voting before the June 22nd primary. So does Zellner. "There are races in both parties countywide," says Zellner. He adds lines should not be as long as they were in November. "Usually the heaviest days are the first two days. It's still a new thing for us, so it's yet to be seen what this cycle will bring with regards to turnout."
