Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Mark Kubinec says he supports the temporary shutdown of the Westbound Elmwood exit on the Scajaquada Expressway.
As owner of Joe's Service Center (the place with yellow front and back car), Kubinec does pick up business from cars exiting the Scajaquada.
But the off-ramp exit that closed early Monday and will remain closed until late Friday is just a temporary thing.
"If we were talking four or five months, not four or five days, it would be a different conversation," Kubinec said.
The Elmwood off-ramp brief closure is part of a $4.65 million repaving on the entire Scajaquada Expressway that began last month and will be completed by late fall.
"We came up with a plan to inconvenience as little as possible,: said Ryan Whalen, state Department of Transportation regional spokesman.
Motorists are being directed to either the Delaware Avenue or Grant Street westbound off-ramps, Whalen said.
"We all know that Elmwood is an important street in Buffalo," Whalen said.
The Scajaquada Expressway (or 198) handles more than 60,000 vehicles - most cars - on a daily basis.
Elmwood business owners like Kubinec think to repaving of the Scajaquada is long overdue.
"You could tell it needed a lot of maintenance work," Kubinec said.
