Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A lot of comparisons are b already being made between this weekend's forecast and the epic Bills-Colts snow game in 2017.
Eric Wood played center for the Bills during that game and remembers it well.
"It was wild. It's the most snow I ever played in," Wood said on WBEN on Friday.
Dec. 10, 2017 was the day of the infamous Snow Bowl at New Era Field in Orchard Park.
"When there's snow like that it can be a big time neutralizer. We (Bills) were a
big favorite going into that game. The Colts had been pretty much eliminated from the playoffs and we were fighting for a playoff spot. Our cleats weren't even getting down to the turf. We were slipping and falling. It was hardly even football out there," he remembers.
Ultimately Wood said the Bills were in serious jeopardy of missing the playoffs. It went right down to the wire. But the Bills ended up beating the Colts in overtime, 13-7, on LeSean McCoy's touchdown run.
For the Wild Card matchup this Sunday, Wood expects players to have a couple of different pair of cleats.
"The NFL only allows a certain length of cleat. I imagine most of them will have whatever that maximum cleat is. It's not that long due to player safety. They don't want them to be used as a weapon out there."
Does Wood see this as a type of game in which the playbook gets tossed aside, and the game is won by the team that is best prepared for the conditions?
"I don't know if you have to throw the playbook away," he said, "but have two different game plans heading into the game and go with the one that works best in the conditions."
