Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Erie County and Buffalo's Affordable Housing Project officially breaks ground on the construction of 47 single-family homes, representing over $24 million in combined investments through the American Rescue Plan.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says the goal is to address the Buffalo's housing shortage and to give prospective home-owners affordable options.
"We understand that the only way to solve that is to build more homes and units. That's why, in 2023 we announced a program in Erie County government in which we'd invest $20 million and $6.5 million in projects that were multi unit projects, which have helped spur over 700 new units, not just in the city of Buffalo, but in Erie County. Then $13.5 million will be set aside to build single family homes in our community, in which we would then offer them to sale at a level which would be affordable for for homeowners, in which also Erie County would not only help construct these homes, but that we would actually subsidize a portion of the purchase price and then require language to be entered into, as Erie County would be the mortgage holder," stated Poloncarz.
