Niagara Falls, NY (WBEN) A Niagara Falls man has died from his injuries suffered when police say he ran a red light while riding an e-scooter, being hit by a car whose driver had the right of way.

Around 5:30pm on Friday, Niagara Falls Police responded to the intersection of Niagara Falls Blvd and 47th St. to investigate involving a vehicle and an electric scooter. A 2009 Buick, driven by a 23 year old man, was traveling west on Niagara Falls Blvd. While in the process of making a left hand turn onto 47th St, the vehicle was struck at a right angle by an eastbound electric scooter that was being operated by 62 year old John Skrlin.

Witnesses reported the vehicle had a green light and left turn arrow and that the scooter passed through a red light. Skrlin was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center where he was rushed into surgery.

He succumbed to his injuries early Saturday morning. .
