OLV gives a special blessing for Sunday's AFC Championship Game for the Bills

Lackawanna, N.Y. (WBEN) - As the Buffalo Bills get set for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, you'll find a little something extra on the statue of Father Nelson Baker.

Leadership at Our Lady of Victory National Shrine and Basilica is hoping their trick will help bring the Bills a victory on Sunday, thus punching the team's ticket to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

Msgr. David LiPuma of OLV says everyone is excited for Sunday's game, and got a jersey to put on Father Baker, who stands on the corner of South Park and Ridge.

"He's donning Josh Allen's jersey, No. 17, and we believe that on this corner where it shouts victory, that this is a good place to root our team on, and Father Baker certainly would be the one to say, go for it," said LiPuma with WBEN.

Splashing Holy Water on the statue was another step in helping the Bills.

"You gotta do everything you can. So a little holy water goes a long way," LiPuma added.

While a Santa hat has gone on Father Baker's head at Christmas time, LiPuma says putting a Bills jersey on Father Baker is a first. He adds they really wanted to do something to lift people's spirits up, and to encourage people to cheer the Bills on.

"Father Baker was just such a great advocate for changing lives for the better. He loved sports as a young person, he loved children, he loved people of all ages, and he always wanted to make people feel better. If we can continue to do that today here at our league of victory, at the city of charity, the home of father Baker, then that really is our call as well," LiPuma explained.

LiPuma's prediction: Bills - 31, Chiefs - 28.

Kickoff on Sunday in Kansas City is slated for 6:30 p.m.
