Buffalo, N.Y (WBEN) - FeedMore WNY has chosen the month of February again this year for their sixth annual "Spread the Love" peanut butter drive.
"The 'Spread the Love' peanut butter drive is something we try to hold once a year to ensure that FeedMore Western New York is able to have enough donations of peanut butter on hand to help meet its high demand throughout our partner food pantries as well as for use in our backpack program serving children in need," said Feedmore WNY's public relations manager, Catherine Shick.
Why peanut butter? It's "shelf stable," a good source of protein and enjoyed by all ages. It also is one of the most highly requested items amongst FeedMore's partners and local food pantries.
If it's "shelf-stable," or easily storable at room temperature, FeedMore can use it.

"We're always looking for donations such as protein items that are shelf stable. Tuna fish, canned chicken other canned or other shelf stable protein items, fruits and vegetables, milk, whole grains, those are all good things to donate. And also things like diapers and toilet paper. Yes, they're not food products, but they're always highly requested and in need by the food pantries that we work with," notes Shick.
Community members may drop off donations at FeedMore WNY’s warehouse, located at 91 Holt St., Buffalo, NY 14206, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST Mondays though Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST on Saturdays.
People also have the option of donating peanut butter online to be shipped directly to FeedMore WNY through yougivegoods.com/peanutbutter2024.
If you can't make a food donation, you can always donate your time.
"We have so many volunteer opportunities to help those in need from sorting and packing food in our warehouse to delivering meals to our neighbors who are served through our home delivered meals program. So if you're looking to volunteer with us you can call us at (716)-822-2002 or visit our website to sign up at FeedMoreWNY.org.
