Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Buffalo Police make five arrests in connection with an armed robbery at Canisius University last night. Police say four of the suspects are juveniles
Buffalo Police say just before 10 pm Thursday, E District officers responded to an armed robbery call at Canisius University. They say a woman was robbed of her car and phone at gun point. About an hour later, officers observed the stolen vehicle on the 190-North near Dingens Street traveling towards downtown Buffalo. Police say the vehicle struck a patrol vehicle before striking a pole at Goodell and Elm streets. The vehicle occupants all fled on foot. Five suspects were apprehended a short distance away.
Demario Wells, 22, of Buffalo, a 12-year-old Buffalo male, a 14-year-old Buffalo male, a 15-year-old Buffalo male, and a 16-year-old Buffalo male were each charged identically with assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal mischief.
Wells, the 14-year-old and the 15-year-old were also charged with robbery.
Wells was also charged two additional counts of criminal possession of stolen property and endangering the welfare of a child, ten vehicle and traffic law citations, including making a false report regarding a stolen vehicle.
A Buffalo Police Officer was taken to ECMC via a patrol vehicle and one juvenile suspect was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital via AMR, both for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation of the incident remains ongoing.
Canisius University adds this statement: Canisius University can confirm that five individuals, none of whom are affiliated with the university, allegedly perpetrated an armed robbery of a student on Thursday evening. The suspects have since been apprehended by the Buffalo Police Department.
The incident occurred in a campus parking lot and is being investigated by Canisius Campus Safety and the Buffalo Police Department. The student was not physically injured and is receiving support from the university’s resources.
The university’s safety processes functioned as designed, with both Canisius Campus Safety and the Buffalo Police Department responding expeditiously to the scene.
