Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) The former Sumitomo plant has a new owner. The company announced the closing of the sale of the building to Hua Fong Rubber.

"Sumitomo Rubber USA (SRUSA) can confirm the completion of the sale of our company’s former manufacturing facility and related property located in the Town of Tonawanda, New York, effective April 1, 2026, to HF Industrial Park," says Sumitomo in a statement.

Hua Fong says in a statement it will name the facility HF Industrial Park. "HF Industrial Park will become home to a dynamic mix of local, national, and international company operations, while ensuring a robust reuse of the longstanding, and important, regional industrial site. Prospective operators within the park are intended to predominately include automotive-related manufacturing in rubber products, wheel parts, transmissions, chassis, and other components," Hua Fong says in the statement. The company says it's a natural evolution for the former Sumitomo Rubber USA plant location and believes this property can successfully transform into a future hub of manufacturing activity and innovation contributing to both the Western New York and New York State economies.

The plant was once home to the Dunlop rubber plant.
