Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A case that Buffalo SVU Detective Richard Hy exposed is now moving forward in court after 30-year-old Shane Cronin was arraigned on attempted kidnapping charges.

Hy claims BPS officials obstructed the investigation by attempting to delete video evidence and failed to inform one of the child's parents about the abduction.

Former Erie County District Attorney John Flynn says during his eight years in office, he handled various cases involving Buffalo Public Schools. However, contrary to Hy's claims, he says there was nothing but cooperation.

"We always, at the end of the day, worked together. I understand that the Buffalo public School District wants to protect children and wants to protect information about children. I always understood that in my eight years as DA, and as a father of five kids, I appreciate that. I appreciate that wanting to protect information on children. Now, was it frustrating? Sometimes, absolutely. But you know what? At the end of the day, it all got worked out," explained Flynn in an interview with WBEN.

Flynn explains there's a narrative that the podcast episode where Hy made claims influenced the DA's office to pursue more charges, which he says doesn't make sense.

"At the end of the day, an arraignment on the indictment came out today. That just doesn't happen without people working together. It doesn't happen without the District Attorney's Office and the Buffalo School District and the Buffalo Police Department and everyone involved working together to do the right thing and bring justice here in a case like this."
