Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A vacant Rite Aid at the corner of Sheridan Drive and Colvin Boulevard is being eyed as the new home of a Northtowns auto bureau.
The move is being fueled by the auto bureau’s current lease at the Sheridan-Eggert plaza expiring and the need of more space, says Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns.
The Rite Aid site is nearly 53% larger at 11,000-square-feet compared to 7,200-square-feet in its current location. "One of the things we're really excited about is it has a drive-thru, and our plan would be, we would be the first auto bureau in the state of New York, where we will accept auto Bureau transactions through the drive-thru," says Kearns. He says the DMV can do certain transactions, like dropping off plates, registrations, even license renewals via drive-thru. "I think it would be super convenient, especially for many of our elderly population, even those who possibly might have some disability, they don't want to leave their car," adds Kearns.
The Erie County Legislature tabled the motion, but Kearns anticipates he'll answer remaining questions to get approval soon.
Kearns said he expects to relocate the bureau by the end of the year.
