Fourth of July storm chance includes mix of sun and clouds

Thunderstorm chances on Independence Day

AccuWeather

(AccuWeather/WBEN) Independence Day will bring a mix of sunshine and clouds, with a chance of heavy thunderstorms. Storms Saturday could produce downpours, hail and damaging wind gusts. Conditions will be slightly cooler than earlier in the week but remain humid.

Saturday night, thunderstorms are possible before skies turn mostly cloudy and humid.

AccuWeather meteorologists say the edges of the heat dome, including Western New York will be the most active area for thunderstorms, with the greatest chance for rounds of severe weather through the holiday weekend.

If large groups or lines of storms develop, damaging wind gusts could occur, along with torrential rainfall that may lead to flash flooding. High winds in some storms could damage tents, canopies and other temporary structures set up for festivities.

Lightning is the greatest risk for people outdoors. A drenching shower or thunderstorm could provide some relief, but storms also may disrupt holiday plans, especially outdoor events, including evening fireworks.
