Hamburg, N.Y. (WBEN)- West Herr Automotive Group and the Town of Hamburg announced on Friday the naming of its new Senior and Community Center they are looking to build honoring longtime chairman Brad Hafner.
The town of Hamburg have been searching in recent years to create a new center for the community's programming and services to support the community's growing population and believe they found the right area at 2892 Lakeview Road.
"Hamburg has been working very diligently the last few years to find a new home for our senior and youth and community programming and services," said Town of Hamburg Supervisor-Elect Beth Farrell Lorentz. "We are in the process of building that new facility that is a representation of the village and the vision of the community."
Lorentz also emphasized how both community and business will be involved with the town's project.
"We've been actively looking to involve our business community at many different levels and in many different ways throughout this process and to see how they can support the programming in the town. It became a natural partnership between the town and West Herr to have the naming rights for the senior and Community Center reflect their longtime position in the town as a pillar in our business community."
The new center will feature some programs that is already offered while also expanding on other features.
"We will have an expanded cafeteria so we can host all kinds of events, and we have several different meal programs. It will have an enhanced and expanded fitness center. We will have classrooms and large and small meeting rooms for activities and we will have a full gym that can accommodate volleyball, basketball, and pickleball courts that will be there," said Lorentz. "We have a covered area for seniors, and that can also double as a stage for the many events that we have, so it truly will become a hub on that property for all kinds of senior and community programming and services."
The $9 million senior and community center project will look to open near the end of 2026.
