North Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - A quick but powerful thunderstorm swept through parts of Western New York Wednesday around 6:45 p.m., knocking out power to some residents, toppling trees and scattering debris across neighborhoods.
Strong winds knocked a tree onto a pickup truck on Tremont Street in North Tonawanda, one of the hardest-hit areas. The storm also led officials to cancel Wednesday evening’s Gateway Harbor Concert Series along the canal in Tonawanda.
Meteorologist Andy Parker said another round of strong storms is possible Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, a Heat Advisory for Western New York remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday.
An Extreme Heat Warning continues for Niagara and Orleans counties through Friday.
