Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - There's been a lot of "buzz" around a new Buffalo style wing sauce infused with THC coming out of Chicago, just in time for Super Bowl Sunday.

Cresco Labs, a Chicago-based cannabis company have added THC oil to the Buffalo sauce of popular Chicago sports bar The Fifty/50 for an elevated chicken wing eating experience.

"We took a very well known restaurants wing sauce recipe called Fifty/50 and infused it with an odorless and tasteless THC distillate and launched it under our Good News brand at our Sunnyside stores across Chicago. It's been met with incredible demand and excitement. The first one sold out literally within about 20 minutes and we're restocking on Friday so people can stock up for the weekend," said John Erkes, a spokesman of Cresco.

The sauce comes in 10-ounce bottles and contains 100 milligrams of THC. If you use the entire bottle on 20-24 wings, you'll get about 3 to 5 milligrams of THC in your system per wing.

So if you have no experience with edibles, try not to eat all the wings with the bottle.

"It's interesting, but also scary," says Wing King Drew Cerza, founder of the Buffalo Wing Festival held annually at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.

"Make sure if you're gonna eat a lot of wings, you only have a certain amount of THC because everybody can only handle a certain amount. Some can handle five milligrams, some people have 50. You're gonna have to eat slowly and kind of gauge it each time when you try these, but it's fun. It's different. Maybe it'll be something that they put permanently on menus."

Cerza considers at one point considered himself a "wing purist" -- medium or hot sauces only. However, as he has discovered by holding Wing Fest each year, there is so much innovation when it comes to food, especially the glorious chicken wing, it's hard not to get excited about the new innovations.

"We have over 100 different styles of wings at the Wing Fest. So, you know, traditional is great, but wings have expanded and why not try something with THC? It seems like THC is everywhere. A lot of people are getting more involved with marijuana use for whatever reason, whether it be medical or just to have recreational fun. Some people I know are doing it just to get off the beer, wine and lose some weight. So why shouldn't Wayne's jump in there? I think it's fun. I think it's interesting. I I don't think it hurts the sanctity of the chicken wing. I think it's a cute, different twist."

Traditional edibles like gummies and brownies have always been prevalent in the cannabis space, but as new innovative food ideas form, the THC-infused food world will continue to take shape in legalized states.

"The opportunities to infuse literally any type of food with cannabis are there and I think as the industry matures, you're gonna see a lot more collaborations like this, especially for events like [the Super Bowl] that you're seeing cannabis infused into something so people can enjoy it in a variety of different ways," added Erkes.
