Goo Goo Dolls to perform second annual hometown benefit concert benefiting FeedMore WNY

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN/KISS 98.5) - After last year's event was a smashing success in Buffalo, Goo Goo Dolls announced Monday it will perform their second annual hometown benefit concerts on Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21 at Buffalo’s Town Ballroom. The concert will, once again, go towards benefiting FeedMore WNY.

Last year's performances raised $150,000 for the organization, whose mission is to provide nutritious food and skills training to Western New Yorkers.

Tickets go on-sale on Friday and 100% of the proceeds from the event will be donated to FeedMore WNY.

Last year's event was one that was close to the heart for Goo Goo Dolls lead singer John Rzeznik.

"People are dealing with all sorts of economic pressures right now. There's a lot of people who get up and go to work every day, and they have two jobs, and because everything is so expensive, they still need a little bit of help. Whatever we can do so that a kid doesn't go to sleep hungry," said Rzeznik in an interview with Nicholas Picholas from KISS 98.5. "I'm just showing up and playing a bunch of songs. You guys are the ones that are driving this. Everybody who came to the shows last year and everybody who's going to come this year, I just want you to know all of your money's going to FeedMore, and that you're proving again that Buffalo is the 'City of Good Neighbors.'"

Rzeznik says last year's event was sparked by people in Western New York losing their SNAP benefits, forcing many to be driven into food insecurity.

"This is not a political thing. This is not left. This is not right. This is about being a good human, and doing what you're supposed to do - doing the right thing," Rzeznik said. "When I grew up in Buffalo, you learned what the right thing was, and you did it most of the time. I don't know one person in Buffalo that hasn't helped push someone out of a snowbank. Those are the kind of people that we are."

Rzeznik says for anyone dealing with any type of food security, don't be afraid to ask for a helping hand.

"Keep going one day at a time, one minute at a time. And if you need help, reach out for it, because people do care. Especially now," he said.
