Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - As tensions remain high in Texas over efforts to redraw Congressional districts to give the GOP more seats, Gov. Kathy Hochul is making it clear that New York will do what it can to keep things even.

"These times call for fighting fire with fire," said Gov. Hochul with FOX's Shannon Bream on "FOX News Sunday".

Hochul claimed the reason discussions about redistricting are happening is because the Trump administration is trying to make up for "failed policies", pointing to tariffs and unemployment numbers.

When pressed on how the state will reshape its districts, despite constitutional restrictions, Hochul says the state will let the people decide whether or not to amend the constitution.

"We just did it a few years ago. We can put it to the people, but I think the people of this state - after what they're seeing when there's on party domination in Washington and how our costs are going up," Hochul said. "They're going to want us to use every tool in the arsenal to fight back, and that's what I intend to do."

Hochul ended the discussion with a message for Texas lawmakers.

"Texas, knock it off, we'll knock it off. Let's get back to governing. But you want to play these games? We're not going to sit on the sidelines."
