(WBEN) - Mandates for bars, restaurants, and venues that host weddings and other events will be changing in the near future.
The state announced Wednesday that the curfew for bars and restaurants will begin to be removed next month. The curfew will be removed for outdoor dining on May 17, and for indoor dining beginning May 31.
The Governor's office also announced that the 1:00AM curfew for catered events where attendees have provided proof of vaccination status or a recent negative COVID-19 test result will be lifted beginning May 17, with the curfew for all catered events set to be lifted May 31. For weddings, the state's recommended "dance zones" will be replaced by "social distancing and masks."
The announcement comes a day after State Senate Majority leaders announced they plan to suspend several of Governor Cuomo's executive orders, including a rule that food must be purchased with alcohol at bars and restaurants. It had been over a year since the Governor was granted emergency law-making authority, and nearly two months since State Democrats approved a measure that would provide oversight, yet this would be the first time they act to repeal a directive.
