Grand Island, N.Y. (WBEN) - Grand Island Supervisor John Whitney announces he will resign from his post on Aug. 4. He cites personal reasons behind his decision.
Whitney would not go beyond that for his reason to step down instead of when his term ends at the end of the year. "There's always trepidation when you're about to make a life changing decision like that. So yeah, it is a difficult decision to make. But I felt that this was best for myself and my family," says Whitney, who tells WBEN he did speak with his family before making the decision.
Whitney says the decision was his alone, saying there's no controversy surrounding it.
Whitney says he tried to steer the ship in the right direction in the town's best interests.
Whitney announced earlier this year he would not seek re-election.
