Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Cheektowaga woman pleads guilty to causing a deadly crash on Transit Road back in late February.
24-year-old Alondra Ramirez-Santiago admitted Wednesday moring to being intoxicated behind the wheel of a crash that killed 51-year-old Jennifer Hylkema of Lockport on Feb. 26.
Ramirez-Santiago is facing one count of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide (Class "B" felony) and one count of Vehicular Manslaughter.
On the night of Feb. 26 at around 9 p.m. EST, Ramirez-Santiago was driving Southbound on Transit Road when she caused a crash with another vehicle. She was under the influence of alcohol when she drove at a high-rate of speed without headlights on. The collision occurred along Transit Road between Cloverleaf Drive and Rehm Road.
The driver and the passenger of the other vehicle were taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center. Hylkema, who was driving the vehichle, died at the hospital. The passenger, the victim's son, was treated and released from the hospital.
Ramirez-Santiago was also taken by ambulance to ECMC, where she was treated for injuries.
Upon her sentencing on Monday, Sept. 23 at 10:30 a.m. ET, Ramirez-Santiago faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
