Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - It's one of the most exciting days of the year for the University at Buffalo as first-year students move in to on-campus housing.

University at Buffalo Vice President of Student Life Brian Hamluk joined A New Morning with Brian Mazurowski and Susan Rose today to talk about the day's events. He says it's one of the most exciting days on the calendar for the school.

"We have graduation in May and then we really spend all of June, all of July, all of August getting ready for their return," Hamluk said. "To see the excitement, to see the families coming to campus, particularly with our first-year students who haven't experienced it before, just really a great thrill for us."

Adding to the excitement of move-in day is the completion of the first phase of renovations to UB's Goodyear and Clement Halls at the school's South campus, which are part of a $35 million investment into UB South.

As for how many students are living on campus, Hamluk says the dorms are completely booked.

"We're close to 7,000 residents this year. We're full and that's really one of the things that adds to the great vibrancy of our campus," says Hamluk.

The celebration continues beyond today as UB's Welcome Weekend will include different events for returning students including a student organization fair on Saturday.

Sunday will feature a drone show over Lake LaSalle at UB's North campus.

Non-freshmen will begin returning to campus tomorrow and through the weekend.
