Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - There is a heat advisory in effect today, Wednesday June 22nd until 6 p.m. for all counties in Western New York, with heat index values (temperature and humidity) reaching high 90s to low 100s and temperatures reaching low 90s.

Highway teams and construction workers are taking on the heat today but they are always prepared to work in high temperature situations.

"Unfortunately this time of year is our busy season where we do heavy paving and road reconstruction work. Unfortunately, today we're doing asphalt. We're paving a road and we have to deal with the elements," said Jamie Dussing, Superintendent of Highways in the town of Clarence.

"They have a full complement of water. We have a we have water cooler. We have coolers with bottled water. We have an ice machine here at the shop that we fill up in the morning and try to keep the guys cooled off. We did get done a little bit early so the guys are in getting their trucks ready for another big paving job tomorrow. We're just doing the best we can. We've been blessed to have some nice residents that have offered Gatorade and water and put coolers out on their front lawns for the employees and that's also a big help is working with asphalt make work significantly harder due to heat," added Dussing.

The rest of this week and weekend is looking to be a hot one with high temperatures with temperatures remaining in the mid to high 80s in Buffalo through Saturday.
