Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Governor Hochul is among those urging Western New Yorkers to stay off the roads one more day as a blizzard went through the Northtowns Christmas weekend. The system has shifted south.

Hochul says we are in a war with Mother Nature. "She has been hitting us with everything she has since the late hours of Thursday, into Friday, Saturday, and now Christmas morning," says Hochul, who describes the storm as colossal. She says this will go down as the most devastating storm in Buffalo's long-storied history of battling snow storms.

Hochul says she's among those sustaining damage from the storm. "We have people with their power off in our communities and buildings where pipes are bursting and flooding is occurring as it's happening in my own home right now," says Hochul. "We still have people who need to be rescued.:

Hochul reiterates her plea to stay off the roads. "I cannot overstate how dangerous the conditions still are," says Hochul. "I know it's Christmas. I know how hard it is. You came off of a couple of years of being separated during the pandemic. It's heartbreaking. But to keep you safe and to all those who have left the security of their homes to help you keep safe."

Hochul says 200 National Guard troops have been deployed to assist with medical missions, getting people out of vehicles, and getting doctors and nurses to hospitals. "The cavalry has arrived," notes Hochul.
