Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - There is optimism work will soon resume on Heritage Point in Buffalo's Canalside section. Work on the project has been delayed by more than a year.
Mark Wendel of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) says he's been in contact with the developer.
"They are working on their financial closing for this month, and then they're looking to have construction resume by the end of June, early July after they get the financial loan closing," said Wendel in an interview with WBEN.
Acting Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon says this project is a key indicator of where the city stands.
"It's sitting there in the condition it is, I think, that domino falling of that project being completed," said Scanlon with WBEN. "It will be a clear indication that Buffalo's back and moving in the right direction post-COVID."
Wendel says the goal is to have the project finished next year.
