Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - With record high temperatures across Western New York. Niagara and Orleans County have issued a heat advisory warning. Some areas are reaching to almost 100 degrees. Tonawanda's emergency service coordinator Bob Lutz are always advising people to stay hydrated even if they are not under a heat advisory.

"We always advise residents to stay hydrated, stay in cool or shaded locations, avoid outdoor activities." Lutz said. "Contacting friends and family is really the best and most comfortable option to seek relief if you lose power or do not have any air conditioning, stores and shopping centers are always a good option, and we do ask residents to please check in on family, friends and neighbors who live alone or are elderly, have medical conditions, and make sure that they're safe and in a cool location. And last but not least, keep an eye on your pets."

The Town of Tonawanda will have their cooling centers and other centers are open and are running at their normal hours. Lutz said that there are procedures if there is an extended amount of power outages where they could keep the cooling centers open off hours. Lutz feels that the heat is different compared to past years because it has been constant.

"We've actually had higher heat emergencies than we're experiencing now, but when it's prolonged, day after day, it certainly wears people down." Lutz said.
