"I don't think I should jump the line because I'm a member of Congress"

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) "I believe the focus should be on frontline healthcare workers and those with pre-existing conditions and the elderly." Representative Chris Jacobs (R-NY27) telling WBEN Friday, he prefers to wait on the Covid vaccine.

Jacobs acknowledging that once healthcare workers, nursing home residents and elderly members of the population are vaccinated, then the pandemic will be
much more under control and a step closer toward normalcy.

"That's where the focus should be," said Jacobs. "The pace of Operation Warp Speed is incredible. The President should get a lot more credit than he is, for leading this unprecedented effort. Vaccines often take three, four, five, up to ten years and the fact that it is 95% effective. That's far more effective than the flu vaccine annually." He called it a game changer for the world and said recognition needs to go where it's due.

Congress's Physician's Office has told members in both the House and Senate and their staff they'll be getting the vaccine due to continuity of government, meaning it's more important for them to not get the virus so federal business continues uninterrupted.

Jacobs says he's healthy and he has access anytime to testing. "I use that when I come to Washington, and when I go home. It's been very effective for me. I don't think I should jump the line because I'm a member of Congress."
